This page is your map of the whole plugin. You do not need every tab on day one, but knowing what each one is for makes the rest of the documentation easier to follow.
Open SMTPPai in the WordPress admin. Across the top you will see these tabs:
1. Dashboard
This is home base for connections — each connection is one configured path to an email provider (Amazon SES, Mailgun, Gmail, and so on).
- When you have no connections yet, you see an empty state and a prompt to add one.
- Add connection opens a provider picker: Recommended (Amazon SES), More providers, and Any Other SMTP.
- After you save a connection, cards appear with actions such as Test, Edit, and (for Google/Microsoft) Connect for OAuth.
Detailed setup for each provider lives under Connections Setup. Shared concepts (From name, credential storage, attachments) are in How connections work.
2. Specify Connections
Here you decide which connection sends which kind of mail:
- One for Everything — a single connection handles all routes.
- Use Separate Connection (Recommended) — assign connections per route (WordPress mail, and WooCommerce mail when WooCommerce is active).
If MailPai is installed, you may also see Newsletter and Outreach route rows. Those belong to MailPai’s product surface; SMTPPai simply lets you point them at a connection.
Read more: One for Everything vs Separate Connections.
3. Backup
Optional but valuable for production sites. Choose a Fallback Connection. If the primary connection fails for certain delivery errors, SMTPPai can retry once through the backup. Details: Set up a backup connection and How failover works.
4. Email Log
Every send SMTPPai handles can appear here with status (sent / failed), recipient, subject, connection, and time. You can filter, search, open details, retry failed items, and delete entries. See the Email Log category for full guides.
5. Settings
Two practical controls live here:
- Keep logs for (days) — how long log rows stay before automatic cleanup (default 14).
- Store email body in log (not recommended) — keeps message bodies for debugging; usually leave this off for privacy.
- Delete all plugin data when uninstalling — when enabled, uninstall removes SMTPPai data instead of leaving it behind.
Details: Email log settings and Delete data on uninstall.
Recommended setup order
- Install and open SMTPPai.
- Add at least one working connection on the Dashboard (and complete OAuth Connect if you use Google or Microsoft).
- Send a test email and confirm it in the Email Log.
- On Specify Connections, choose One for Everything or map separate routes.
- Optionally add a second connection and set it as Backup.
- Adjust Settings (retention) to match your privacy needs.
Tip: You can change providers later without reinstalling. Add a new connection, point your routes to it, test, then remove the old connection when you are ready.
Next: Add your first connection.
