Online advertising is more crowded and more expensive than it was even a few years ago. In this environment, email remains one of the few options that still rewards an owned audience, a direct relationship, and messaging for year.
At the same time, email marketing is more scrutinized than ever. Mailbox providers, SMTP infrastructure, reputation systems, spam filters, engagement signals, authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), and policy enforcement all decide whether your message is landing to the inbox or spam. It also creates an opportunity for the senders who is following the email marketing guidelines and respecting the rules.
You already know the major platforms like Mailchimp, Brevo, and others those are offering good services around the world. We respect that. We also hear the same thing repeatedly from serious operators that they want something more controllable and more private.
Self-hosted email marketing is the solution of that particular problem if the tooling feels modern enough. When we looked around, we did not see enough of that. So we decided to stop waiting and started building MailPai.
Why WordPress and why now
We love WordPress. You will still hear the occasional hot take that “PHP is dead” or “WordPress is dead.” In practice, WordPress powers a massive share of the web and for many serious businesses choosing wordpress because of freedom and a large developer community. WordPress shouldn’t call a CMS but it’s like an operating system as well. We also believe WordPress can become even more central in the AI era.
The gap we found is simple. Great email marketing experience inside WordPress still felt thin compared to what teams need especially when cost, control, and deliverability all matter at once.
Why Amazon SES matters
As lists grow and sending volume increases, many SaaS tools become expensive at higher usage. Amazon SES is a genuinely strong opportunity for scalable sending, strong engine at volume, and the infrastructure that most of the engineers trust. Yes, SES is powerful, but this is not directly a friendly tool for non tech users.
That is the problem we wanted to solve and bring two giants together, WordPress and Amazon SES into one direction.
